What Does the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Cost in 2027?
Prices for the full circuit vary a lot because operators include different things. Some quote only land costs. Others add flights, permits, Kathmandu hotels and equipment. Compare what is in the price before you compare the number. Full circuits that visit both base camps, like our 24 day route, usually sit between USD 2,100 and USD 3,500 in the market.
Two things push the price above treks like Everest Base Camp or Manaslu. The first is logistics, a flight, then two days on mountain roads before you start walking. The second is time. Every extra day adds a guide, a porter, food and lodging.
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Cost Breakdown
This table shows what each part usually costs if you buy it separately. These are estimates for 2027, not our price list. They show where the money goes for two trekkers sharing one guide and one porter.
| Item | Estimate per person | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Restricted area permit | USD 60 to USD 80 | USD 20 per week for the first four weeks. Most circuits use 3 to 4 weeks |
| Conservation area permit | About USD 15 | Single entry fee of about NPR 2,000. Some sources list NPR 3,000 |
| Return flight, Kathmandu to Bhadrapur | USD 230 to USD 290 | Fares change with season and airline |
| Ground transport | USD 100 to USD 200 | Shared vehicles from Bhadrapur to the trailhead and back. Based on one private vehicle quote for six people |
| Licensed guide | USD 330 to USD 495 | USD 30 to USD 45 a day over about 22 days, shared by two trekkers |
| Porter | USD 220 to USD 290 | A porter costs about USD 440 to USD 580 for the whole trip, shared by two trekkers |
| Food and lodging on the trail | USD 500 to USD 800 | About 20 days at USD 25 to USD 40 a day. Costs rise with altitude |
| Subtotal | About USD 1,455 to USD 2,170 | Before Kathmandu hotels, equipment, taxes and agency costs |
The gap between this subtotal and a package price is where the agency’s other costs sit. These include hotels in Kathmandu, airport transfers, sightseeing, equipment loan, first aid supplies, staff cover, taxes and running an office. Small groups also carry a higher cost per person.

Permit and Visa Costs for 2027
| Item | Cost | Notes |
| Kanchenjunga Restricted Area Permit | USD 20 per person per week for four weeks, then USD 25 per week | Department of Immigration, through a registered agency |
| Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit | About NPR 2,000 (roughly USD 15) | Some sources list NPR 3,000. Confirm before booking |
| Nepal tourist visa | USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, USD 125 for 90 days | A 30 day visa covers a 24 day trip |
A recent rule change helps solo trekkers. On 22 March 2026 the Department of Immigration removed the two trekker minimum for restricted area permits. A single person can now get a permit, but only through a registered agency and with a licensed guide. One guide can lead up to seven trekkers. The permit fee is the same per person, but a solo trekker pays the full guide and porter cost alone. Questions about permits, insurance or booking? Ask our team.
How Group Size Changes the Cost
Group size is the biggest lever on your price. A guide costs the same whether one person or six walk behind them, so shared costs fall as the group grows. Porters are usually shared two to one, and vehicles are shared too. Solo trekkers carry every shared cost alone. That is why many operators quote a lower price per person for a group of four than for a pair. Our tour page lists one price, so ask us for a quote that matches your group size.
Hidden and Extra Costs to Plan For
| Cost | Estimate | Notes |
| Travel insurance | USD 100 to USD 150 | Must cover trekking to at least 5,500 m and helicopter evacuation. See our travel insurance for trekking in Nepal page |
| Spending money | USD 300 to USD 500 | Boiled water, hot drinks, snacks, charging, WiFi and showers. Carry Nepali rupees |
| Tips | Your choice | Expected for guide and porter. Ask us what we suggest |
| Extra Kathmandu nights | Varies | Early returns and flight delays are the usual reasons |
| Gear you buy | USD 50 to USD 100 | Loan items are included in our price. See our packing list for trekking in Nepal before buying anything |
| Helicopter return or rescue | Can be thousands of dollars | One operator lists USD 2,400 to USD 3,200 for a planned helicopter return from Ghunsa for a group of five. Emergency costs depend on the case |
Add two spare days to your plan. Weather can delay flights, and a day lost in Kathmandu or Bhadrapur costs money.
How Trek Length Changes the Price
Longer plans cost more because you pay for every extra day, but they are also safer. Ranges overlap because operators include different services, so use this table as a guide only.
| Trek length | Market estimate per person | What it usually means |
| 15 to 18 days | About USD 1,600 to USD 2,500 | Often one base camp, or shorter road travel and fewer rest days |
| 19 to 22 days | About USD 2,100 to USD 3,200 | Both base camps, with a few rest days |
| 23 to 26 days | About USD 2,300 to USD 3,500 | Full circuit with a safer buffer for weather and acclimatisation |
What Cheap Kanchenjunga Offers Often Leave Out
A low headline price on this trek usually means something is missing. Before you book, check whether the price covers the following.
• Both permits, the restricted area permit and the conservation area permit
• The flight between Kathmandu and Bhadrapur
• Hotel nights in Kathmandu before and after the trek
• A porter for every two trekkers, not one porter for the whole group
• Rest days at Ghunsa and Kambachen
• Insurance and a fair wage for your guide and porter
• Sleeping bag and down jacket, if you do not own them
If one offer is far below the rest, ask which of these items it leaves out. Then add them back before you compare.

Questions to Ask Before You Pay
• Is the price per person, and for which group size?
• Which permits and park fees are included?
• Are the flights between Kathmandu and Bhadrapur included, and are taxes covered?
• How many days are on the trail, and how many are rest days?
• How many trekkers share each porter?
• What happens to the price if the group is smaller than planned?
• What is the plan, and who pays, if bad weather delays the trek?
Cost, Altitude and Difficulty
On Kanchenjunga, cost follows altitude. The rest days at Ghunsa and Kambachen look like expensive pauses, but they are the safest money on the trip. Each extra day on the trail adds roughly USD 50 to USD 75 per person for guide, porter, food and lodging when two people share. That is an estimate. Cutting rest days to save money raises your risk of altitude sickness and of an evacuation that costs far more.
The circuit is a strenuous trek with long days of 5 to 8 hours, high passes and remote terrain. A higher price often means a longer plan with enough buffer, not just a better hotel.
Kanchenjunga Cost Compared With Other NMA Treks
Here is how the price compares with other treks, using the listed prices on our site. Per day, Kanchenjunga is close to Everest Base Camp, because the longer trip spreads the cost. If a shorter trip suits you better, look at our Short Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, which runs 18 days.
| Trek | Days | Listed price | About per day |
| Everest Base Camp Trek | 15 | From USD 1,410 | USD 94 |
| Manaslu Circuit Trek | 14 | From USD 1,155 | USD 83 |
| Short Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek | 18 | From USD 1,975 | USD 110 |
| Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek | 24 | From USD 2,300 | USD 96 |

How to Keep the Cost Sensible
• Travel as a group of four or more if you can, so guide, porter and vehicle costs are shared.
• Compare what is included, not just the headline price. Check permits, flights, Kathmandu nights and equipment.
• Keep the acclimatisation days. They protect your health and your budget.
• Do not skip insurance. One evacuation costs far more than a policy.
• Book early for April, May, October and November, when flights and high lodges fill up.
• Carry enough Nepali rupees, because ATMs are not available on the trail.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Kanchenjunga trek cost per day?
On our listed price, about USD 96 per day for the 24 day circuit. If you pay for food and lodging yourself on the trail, budget about USD 25 to USD 40 per day.
Why is the Kanchenjunga trek so expensive?
The trek is remote. You need a flight, two days of road travel, a compulsory guide, porters and about three weeks of food and lodging. Few trekkers walk it, so costs are spread over fewer people.
How much do Kanchenjunga trek permits cost?
The restricted area permit is USD 20 per person per week for the first four weeks. The conservation area permit is about NPR 2,000. Together they come to about USD 75 to USD 95 for a typical circuit.
Is the Kanchenjunga trek more expensive than Everest Base Camp?
In total, yes, because it is longer. On our listed prices the cost per day is similar, about USD 96 for Kanchenjunga and USD 94 for Everest Base Camp.
Can I do the Kanchenjunga trek on a budget?
You can reduce the cost by joining a group, but you cannot trek the restricted area without a licensed guide. Avoid offers that leave out permits, flights or acclimatisation days.
Does the Kanchenjunga trek price include flights?
Our listed price includes the flights between Kathmandu and Bhadrapur. Check this when you compare other operators, because many do not include them.
How much cash should I bring for the Kanchenjunga trek?
Plan for about USD 300 to USD 500 in spending money, plus tips. Carry Nepali rupees, because there are no ATMs on the trail.

No. You need your own policy that covers trekking to at least 5,500 m and helicopter evacuation. Expect to pay about USD 100 to USD 150.
Is a solo Kanchenjunga trek more expensive?
Per person, yes. Since March 2026 a solo trekker can get the permit, but a licensed guide is still compulsory, so you pay the full guide cost alone.
Does the Kanchenjunga trek cost change between autumn and spring?
Prices can vary with season, group size and exchange rate. Autumn and spring are the busy seasons, so flights and lodges fill up early.
