Two permits are required which are the Langtang National Park Entry Permit (USD 30) and the TIMS card (USD 20). Nepal Mountain Adventure arranges both permits in Kathmandu before departure so trekkers face no delays at the Dhunche checkpoint.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons. The Langtang Valley is also one of the few Nepal treks that is accessible in winter from December to February as the main trail stays below 4,000 m and Kyanjin Gompa remains open throughout the colder months.
Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist monastery village at the top of the Langtang Valley surrounded by glaciers and 7,000 m peaks. Highlights include visiting the ancient monastery, trying the famous local yak cheese made at the Kyanjin cheese factory, and hiking up to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) or Tserko Ri (4,984 m) for spectacular views.
The Langtang Valley Trek offers dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang II (6,571 m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Naya Kang (5,844 m), and Gang Chhenpo (6,388 m) rising directly above the valley walls, making it one of the most enclosed and spectacular mountain valley experiences in all of Nepal.
