This trek allows one to visit the Sherpa villages of Khunde and Khumjung.

You will also see Sir Edmund Hillary’s accomplishments through the organization he formed, the Himalayan Trust.  The trail has colorful plants and animals, with the majestic Himalayas as a backdrop.

What is the Best Season for the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek?

Trekkers can climb Ama Dablam all year round but some months might be more appropriate than others. The most suitable season to trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).

Spring remains favorable for the weather as the skies are clear, and temperatures remain moderate during this season. The beautiful rhododendron trees bloom, and the hillsides come alive with colors. This is the perfect season for trekking because of the excellent views of the mountain ranges and glaciers. Ideally, the trekkers should plan before the beginning of the monsoon which starts in June.

Day 1: Day 01: Arrive in Nepal (1360 m/4462 ft)

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals: Dinner

Upon your arrival, our welcoming team will receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and help with your luggage matters. We will transport you to your hotel where you will have a good time having dinner and maybe rest. If you want to become more comfortable with the environment around you, take a walk around the block. You will spend the night at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu city sightseeing and Trek preparation (1360 m/4462 ft) 5-7 Hrs Tour

Today is the second day in Kathmandu. You will visit the city of Kathmandu by arranged transport and spend a whole day visiting cultural sites and iconic landmarks. Most of the tourist attractions are famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

In the afternoon there will be a preparation for the trekking the next day. You will be introduced to your guide, confirm your equipment, and receive an essential briefing about the Ama Dablam trial trek. In the evening, you can free your time and get ready for the adventure.

Overnight in Kathmandu. 

Day 3: Flight to Lukla (2,840 m/9318 ft) and then trek to Phakding (2,610 m/8536 ft) 4-5 Hrs Trek

Flight duration: Kathmandu to Lukla (30-35 min flights)

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

We will take a 30-45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla early in the morning. When you arrive in Lukla, spend some time acclimatizing before starting the Ama Dablam trekking. Continue your journey towards Phakding, a small village inhabited by Sherpas with gorgeous landscapes. There are shops, cafes, and restaurants in the local market. The duration of the journey is about 4 to 5 hours.

Overnight in Phakding. 

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11286 ft) 5-6 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will continue your trek to Namche Bazaar. Follow the banks of the Dudh Kosi River, crossing it twice via small suspension bridges. Then cross through the small village of Monju. It is the entry point to the Sagarmatha National Park. You will be rewarded with magnificent views of Mount Everest and other mountains.

During the hike, you will also encounter several small villages including Thulo-Gumela, Tok-Tok, Benkar, and Jorsalle. Namche Bazaar is the largest marketplace along the trail of Ama Dablam. You will reach there after trekking for about 6 hours. Spend the night either at a tea house or camp out.

Day 5: Trek to Khumjung village via Everest View Point (3780 m/12402ft) 6-7 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you have a long journey ahead. You will be departing from Namche Bazaar to get to the beautiful village of Khumjung. Also, you will be able to explore the Sir Edmund Hillary School. 

The trekking route will take us through scenic destinations like the Everest viewpoint. Get through different tropical and temperate forests of Pine & Rhododendron. When you ascend, you will be able to see different peaks like Mount Amadablam, Mount Thamserku, Mount Tabuche, Mount Lhotse, and Mount Everest.

Overnight in Khumjung Village. 

Day 6: Explore the Kumjhung monastery and trek to Phortse (3810 m/12500 ft) 4-5 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After breakfast, take a walk to the village of Khumjung and check out the local monastery and its traditions. The Khumjung monastery is believed to have a real Yeti scalp that is 300 years old. Sir Edmund Hillary brought that scalp across the globe.

Following your tour of the monastery, you will proceed to trek to Phortse, which is a typical Sherpa village. The trek follows a gradual climb through some of the finest Rhododendron forests and yak grazing grounds. It will take five to six hours to get to Phorte from here.

Day 7: Trek to Pangboche (3930 m/12893 ft) 4-5 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you will trek from Khumjung Village to Pangboche. You will also visit the iconic Thyangboche Monastery, a respected Buddhist site. Sir Edmund Hillary helped to rebuild this monastery.

Continuing onwards, pass through charming villages such as Mong La and Phortse Tanga. There, you may encounter local wildlife including pheasants and musk deer. After reaching Pangboche, you will stay at an eco-campsite surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayas. The hike takes approximately 4-5 hours.

Day 8: Morning excursion to Ama Dablam base camp (4600 m/15091 ft) and the same day Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3860m/12664 ft) 6-7 Hrs Trek

Today we will reach our final destination, Ama Dablam base camp. Ama Dablam is one of the most loved and admired mountains in the Khumbu region. We will cross Imja Khola before starting the ascent to Ama Dablam from Pangboche.

Get to witness the scenic beauty of Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Ama Dablam, and Kantega. Spend quality time enjoying the beauty of the snow-capped mountains and the Himalayan range and have lunch and drinks while taking in the view.

After that, we’ll spend half a day exploring and climbing to some height of Mount Ama Dablam. Then, we’ll return to Tengboche and stay the night there. This day’s journey will involve walking for 6 to 7 hours.

Day 9:Trek down to Monjo (2835 m/9301 ft) 6-7 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

The hike starts from Ama Dablam Base Camp at an altitude of 2835m and then continues the descent to Monjo. You have to start early in the morning and retrace the same steps to Namche Bazaar. The trail further descends from Namche, through villages such as Pangboche and Deboche.

While descending you can notice the gradual transformation of the area and get the chance to observe the many varieties of flora and fauna of the Sagarmatha National Park. The trail will become steeper as it follows close to the Dudh Koshi River until you reach the village of Monjo. The trekking will take about 6-7 hours.

Overnight in Monjo.

Day 10: Trek to Lukla (2840m/9318 ft) 5-6 Hrs Trek

Accommodation: Tea house

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today we are on the last day of our 12-day-long Ama Dablam Trail trek. From Monjo, we said goodbye to the great peaks and commenced our trek to Lukla after breakfast. The trail involves gradual ascents and descents, allowing us to soak in the last moments of Himalayan beauty.

On arriving at Lukla, the rest of the day can be spent at leisure and sharing the experiences of the past days. Enjoy the sunshine to remember the best and worst moments of your trip.

In the evening share some time with trekking guides and porters who have helped to make this adventure a success. Have an acclimatization day and overnight either at a teahouse or a lodge in Lukla.

Day 11:Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel (1360 m/4462 ft)

We will retrace our steps back to Lukla and then fly back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu, we shall pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel. You can also take time to have your lunch and relax for the day.

There are numerous activities to do in Kathmandu you can explore more, go on sightseeing tours, take a spa, or even get some rest if you are tired.
