Bhairab Kunda Trek is located at the nearby the Nepal-Tibet border in the Langtang Region of Nepal. Bhairab Kunda means a holy Lake in the Sanskrit language, named after the destructive name for Lord Shiva.

This lake is close to Kathmandu Valley and is newly opened for trekkers’ destinations. This place is visited by thousands of domestic tourists every year for religious purposes.

 It is situated next right to PanchPokhari, which is a fusion of nature, religions, art, culture, and spiritual aspects of the Himalayas. It is a famous sacred pilgrimage site of Shamans, Buddhism, and Hinduism.  Many religious peoples visit this holy place to bath away their sins during the month of Bhadra (August-September) at the full moon.

Bhairav Kunda holy mountain lake is at a high altitude of 4150m. Unlike other remote area trekking, this pilgrimage trek to the holy site will be your unique experience to explore the myths and mysteries of this lake.

The name ‘Bhirav Kunda” denotes the angry and ferocious form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that he changed his form during the destruction of the world. And the word Kunda denotes the pond or lake. Greeted by the snow-capped mountains every dawn as you wake up from your campsite and having breakfast in the lap of the mountains and hills will be your best time at Bhairab Kunda Trekking. Trek to Bhairav Kunda will give you several views of the Nepalese and Tibetan Himalayas.

You will see snow-capped mountains like Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Madiya (6,257m), PhurbiGhhyachu (6,637m), Jugalsurrounding with many other majestic views of the Himalayas from the lake and will notice many cultural explorations from Newar, Bahun, Chettri and Sherpa natives.

Taking a bath inside the Kunda is said to release you from all of your sins. Trekking to this region will simply delight you, and you will return with a fresh mind and soul. There is also a small Hindu Temple which is nearby to this pond. You will experience and learn about the cultural importance of Hindu, Brahim, and Newar community peoples.

Our journey to Lake Bhirav will start from Kathmandu with the drive to Jalbire. The next day, we will start our trek from Jalbire and reach different small-town villages like Chanute, Khani Gaon, Forest Camp, Pati, and many more. After trekking through all of these places, we will reach Bhairav Kunda.

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

Today after you arrive at the Tribhuwan International Airport, our guide will receive you and help you accommodate in a nice hotel. From there, you can relax and visit nearby shops in Kathmandu Valley, which is jam-packed and crowded with Nepalese and foreigners.

Streets in Kathmandu valley are narrow and short. We suggest you visit two famous places around the valley, Thamel and Basantapur Durbar Square. In Thamel, you can visit the local shops which have access to all the important trekking gear like trekking boots, Hiking sticks, sleeping bags, sleeping tents,water bottles, trousers, and many more. You can all get them at a lower price at Thamel streets. This area is also famous among tourists for its popular bars, pubs, restaurants, and cafes.

Basantapur Is an ancient Durbar Square where you can shop for handicrafts made by locals. You can buy them as a gift or souvenirs for your friends and families. There are also pretty famous cafes and restaurants around durbar square. You can take pictures, make videos, and don’t forget to return to the hotel for a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Sightseeing to different UNESCO World Heritage Site

Today after morning breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the two most famous places around Kathmandu city they are Bouddhanath Stupa and Pasupatinath Temple.

Pasupatinath Temple is located in the 3km northwest direction of Kathmandu. This is a holy pilgrimage place for many Hinduism people. This temple devotes to Lord Shiva and is a popular and important religious site for every people in Nepal. Many tourists from India and Other Asian countries visit this temple to worship Lord Shiva. You will likely see many monkeys around this place. This temple also has a flowing river of Bagmati, which is considered holy by Hindus. You will notice the temple is made up of wooden crafted and has a pagoda-style theme where the pinnacle is made out of Gold.

Our next stop will be Boudhanath Stupa.Boudhanath stupa is located at the heart of the city and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites making it one of the most imposing landmarks in Kathmandu. It is also regarded as the largest Stupa in the world.It is a religious holy site for the Tibetan and Buddhism people of Nepal. It is also one of the important landmarks of Kathmandu, and you will see this Stupa as soon as you land at Tribhuwan airport.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Jalbire

Maximum Altitude: 1000 m/3280 ft

Trek duration: 4-5hours

Our guide will help you get In a vehicle, and we will head towards Jalbire, which will take about 4-5 hours’ drive from the main city of Kathmandu city. We will take a drive towards the northeast on the road to Tibet to Balephi. Balephi used to be one of the main towns for trading in Tibet. We will enjoy a scenic view of mountains from the vehicle while setting off for Jalbire.

We will also see Hindu God Vishnu’s Temple on the bank of the Balefi River. We will go through a rough ride for one hour and reach Jalbire. You will see locals of full Newari culture at this place.

Day 04: Trek to Chanaute

Maximum Altitude: 1,350 m/ 4428 ft

Today will be our 1st day of walking to reach our destination to Bhairav Kunda. We will start trekking through the enchanting waterfall and come across the beautiful village of Tamang. Today we will walk for 4-5 hours to reach Chanaute. It is a small and beautiful village where you will see lots of Chettri and Brahmin communities.

Day 5: Trek to Khani Gaon

Maximum Altitude: 2000 m/6560 ft

Today we will walk towards the exciting village at Khani Gaon where we will walk for 5-6 hours to reach there. Today’s walk might be more exhausting and difficult than yesterday. We will walk through steep uphill on narrow walking trails. We will pass through beautiful villages, streams, terraced fields of vegetables of different kinds, and local schools. Khani Gaon Is also called a Newari Village.

Day 6: Exploration day at Khani Gaon

Today after having morning breakfast we will explore the beautiful village of Khani Gaon which is surrounded bythe stunning view of the mountains.  The literal meaning of Khani which is a Nepali word means “Source of Mines” and Goun means “Village”. It is said that the people from Bhaktapur settledin this village after a battle happened between the natives of Gorkha and Bhaktapur in the 18th century. We will also visit the Dalle Pokhari and explore more about the local tribes of Newari peoples. We will taste authentic Newari food and enjoy the surround and their native dialect.

We will stay overnight here at the tented camp.

Day 7: Trek from Khani Ghou to Forest Camp

Maximum Altitude: 3,150 m/10332 ft

Kilometers: 30km

Trek duration: 5-6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After exploring Khani Gaun we will head towards Forest Camp. We will take steep uphill in a dense forest which will be full of rhododendrons forests. During trekking, we will see varieties of birds and we also may encounter some wild animals like bears and leopards in the forest. We will explore the true sense of natural beauty of Nepal where we will a great chance to observe the nomad house.

Day 8: Trek to Pati

Maximum Altitude: 3,765 m/12,349 ft

After morning breakfast, we will make our way towards Pati. Today’s trek will be harder than before as we will climb and ascend to the hilltop to reach our destination. We will also come across different pilgrim houses on our way. After arriving at pati we will enjoy glorious views of mountains and relax.

Day 9:Trek to Bhairab Kunda

Maximum Altitude:4,250/13,940 ft

Kilometers: 15km

Trek duration: 3hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we will arrive at our final destination which is Bhairb Kunda. It is a short and sweet hike from Pati. We will trek by ascending uphill for half an hour. Bhairab as explained in the overview is a holy pilgrimage site and is a religious valued place. Like other people, you can also take a holy bath in this lake which is known to remove all of our sins of their life. We will take time to worship Lord Shiva at the temple located nearby Bhairab Lake.

We will walk more for an hour uphill and finally reach Bhairab Kunda. It is at 4,150m high altitude. We will get magnificent views of snow-capped mountains like Langtang, Jugal Himal, and Tibetan Range.

Day 10: Exploration day at Bhairab Kunda

Maximum Altitude: 4,250/13,940 ft

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we will wake up early in the morning to catch the beautiful sunrise from the top of the hill. We will walk for half an hour to reach the top where we will get stunning views of mountains like Langtang, Jugal Himal, Rolwalling Range, and Tibetan Range at 7,181m. We will observe and explore the Bhirab Kunda Lake in more depth today as today will be the exploration day for us.

Day 11:Trek to Sherpa Gaon

Maximum Altitude: 2,500 m/8200 ft.

Kilometers: 30km

Trek duration: 6-7 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will leave Bhairab Kunda behind and walk towards Sherpa Gaon. We will descend steep for about 5-6 hours through dense forest until we reach Sherpa Gaun. The forest will be full of Rhododendron of different flowers.

Day 12: Trek to Larche and drive back to Kathmandu

Maximum Altitude: 1,500 m/4920 ft

Kilometers: 27km

Trek duration: 5-6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today will be our last day of the trek, where we will have to steep descend and head towards Larcha. Larcha is situated at the bank side of Bhote Koshi River. After 3-4 hours of walking, we will reach Larka. If you like, you can also visit the natural hot spring Tatopani where you can make your body and muscles relax for some time. After difficult and exhausting trekking of more than five days, your body will thank you for this.

After reaching Larcha, we will have to drive back to Kathmandu in a vehicle. It will take about 40-45minutes (66km) away from Larcha to reach Kathmandu Valley.
On your arrival at Kathmandu city, our guide will help you with check-in inside the hotel where you can have rest and farewell dinner. We will give you authentic Nepali cuisine for dinner this day.

What type of trekking is this?

Bhairab Kunda is a holy and religious place for Buddhism, Hinduism, and Shamans peoples. And during this trek, we will have to set camp and tents on most of our nights. We will have to carry those in backpacks with water bottles, jackets, and a camera. We will use transportation mode to reach our starting point of the trek. We will be setting up a camp so that we don’t have to rely on village settlements.

How many hours should I trek in a day?

During the trip to Bhairab Kunda, we will have to walk for a maximum of 4-5 hours per day. Trekking routes are not so difficult and we will also have acclimatization and exploration day in the middle.

What kind of guides will be provided?

Our guide is full of experience, abilities and has a good personality. Because they have many years of experience in this field they are very knowledgeable too. They will make sure to take care of you and arrange potters in the way if you feel any kinds of difficulty during the trek.
