Historical Background
Before the unification of Nepal, there were numerous petty kingdoms scattered across the country. Prithivi Narayan Shah was a legendary monarch who began to conquer Nepal by uniting all of the petty kingdoms. Kathmandu used to be a powerful and wealthy kingdom, and Prithvi Naryan Shah’s father-in-law’s state was Makwanpur. Therefore he used to come here to strategize on how to defeat Kathmandu. That is why the King’s statue is found at Chandragiri.
