The trek typically lasts for about 8-10 days and starts from the vibrant city of Pokhara, known as the gateway to the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, you will embark on a picturesque drive to Kande, the starting point of the trek. The journey begins with a gradual ascent through lush rhododendron forests, terraced fields, and charming Gurung villages.

As you make your way up, the panoramic views become more awe-inspiring. The trail takes you to stunning viewpoints like Australian Camp, which offers breathtaking vistas of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Along the way, you will also encounter sparkling waterfalls, pristine streams, and diverse flora and fauna, making each step a delight for nature lovers.

One of the highlights of the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is the opportunity to practice yoga and meditation in serene natural settings. Experienced yoga instructors will guide you through sessions amidst the tranquility of the mountains, allowing you to connect with your inner self, find peace, and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.

As you ascend higher, you will reach the Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 4,500 meters (14,764 feet). The Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli mountains dominate the horizon, creating a majestic backdrop that will leave you in awe.

During the trek, you will stay in comfortable teahouses, which are basic but provide a warm and cozy atmosphere. The teahouses offer delicious Nepali cuisine along with international dishes, ensuring you have nourishing meals to fuel your journey.

It’s important to note that the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek requires an easy-moderate level of fitness. Prior physical preparation, including regular exercise and cardio workouts, will help you tackle the trek with ease. It’s recommended to consult with a healthcare professional and undergo a thorough medical check-up before embarking on this adventure.

FAQ

How many days does the Mardi Himal Trek with Yoga take?

The Mardi Himal Trek with Yoga takes 9 to 11 days with Nepal Mountain Adventure, combining the scenic Mardi Himal Base Camp trek at 4,500 m with daily yoga and meditation sessions led by a qualified yoga instructor at key overnight camps along the ridge trail.

How much does the Mardi Himal Trek with Yoga cost?

The Mardi Himal Trek with Yoga with Nepal Mountain Adventure starts from USD 899 per person including a licensed trekking guide, a certified yoga instructor, porter, teahouse and camp accommodation, three daily meals, yoga mats, ACAP permit, and TIMS card.

Do I need prior yoga experience to join this trek?

No, prior yoga experience is absolutely not required. Nepal Mountain Adventure’s yoga sessions on the Mardi Himal trail are designed for all levels from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. The yoga program is adapted to the altitude and physical demands of each trekking day with gentle morning sessions focused on breathing, stretching, and mindfulness.

Where on the Mardi Himal trail are the yoga sessions held?

Yoga sessions are held each morning outdoors at the overnight camp or teahouse clearing with the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks as a backdrop. The most spectacular sessions take place at High Camp (3,500 m) and Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m) where the mountain panorama directly above creates an extraordinary setting for meditation and breathwork.

What style of yoga is practiced on the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek?

Nepal Mountain Adventure’s certified yoga instructor leads Hatha and Pranayama (breathwork) focused sessions which are particularly beneficial at altitude. The breathing exercises help trekkers manage the lower oxygen levels above 3,000 m and the gentle morning movement practice helps prevent muscle stiffness after long trekking days.

What is the best time for the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek?

Spring (March to May) is the best time combining the spectacular rhododendron bloom along the Mardi Himal ridge with ideal conditions for outdoor yoga at the camp viewpoints. Autumn (September to November) is the second best option with crystal clear mountain views from High Camp and base camp that make morning meditation sessions particularly powerful.

What permits are needed for the Mardi Himal Trek with Yoga?

Two permits are required which are the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP, USD 30) and the TIMS card (USD 20). Nepal Mountain Adventure arranges both permits in Pokhara before departure so trekkers can focus entirely on their yoga and trekking experience from day one.

How does yoga help with trekking at high altitude?

Regular yoga practice at altitude significantly helps by improving breathing efficiency through Pranayama techniques, reducing muscle soreness through targeted stretching after long walking days, calming the nervous system to improve sleep quality at altitude, and building mindful awareness of the body that helps trekkers recognize early AMS symptoms before they become serious.

What makes the Mardi Himal trail a better yoga trek than ABC or EBC?

The Mardi Himal trail is quieter, less trafficked, and has a more meditative atmosphere than the busy ABC or EBC corridors. The long uninterrupted ridge sections from Forest Camp through Low Camp and High Camp offer extended periods of silence and natural beauty ideal for a mindfulness focused trek. The smaller group sizes on the Mardi Himal trail also create a more intimate and personal yoga retreat experience.

All I can say about the trip is that it is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
They made the trip so easy and well organized that we were left only to enjoy everything that came along. From the initial trip planning conversation to departure, everything was so smooth. Mardi Himal trail is simply an awesome region where you find yourself lost in its magical beauty and we were lucky to have a clear view when we were trekking.
We practiced yoga every morning and evening and mountains and nature made the practice even better. We lived the moment and loved the experience. We are happy to have chosen this trip.
