Bhutan Tour– Best Time

The best times to visit the country are in the spring and October. Spring starts in February and lasts until mid-May when the entire countryside is a rich green and alive with wildflowers in full bloom, particularly rhododendrons, locally known as the metho, of which Bhutan has forty-six different types. Every April, the Lamperi Botanical Park, near Thimphu, hosts a three-day Rhododendron Festival to honor the blossoms in their natural habitat. September sees the end of the monsoon’s heavy rains, ushering in the pleasant season of fall, with clear skies and sunny days. Even though the evenings might be cool, the days are balmy, making this the greatest season to go hiking and exploring the region.

Nepal Bhutan Tour Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro and sightseeing

Maximum Altitude: 2195m/7200ft

Your four-night five days Bhutan Tour begins with a short and gorgeous flight from Kathmandu to Paro, just like other multi-day Bhutan trips.

In clear weather, this flight is a good alternative to a mountain flight in Nepal since you can see Mount Everest and Lhotse from a new perspective.

The National Museum, which was previously a watchtower for Rimpung Dzong, will be the first stop on your tour. It has a great view of Paro, and the Dzong is said to have been built in 1645 A.D.

You will now ride from Paro to Thimpu, Bhutan’s capital city, along a mountain road. It’s time to explore the National Library after touring the memorial Chorten constructed in remembrance of the third king.

Overnight in Thimpu!

Day 2: Sightseeing Thimpu

Maximum Altitude: 2320m/7612ft

In Thimphu, you’ll witness Buddhist texts at the National Library and traditional medicine institutes where healing practices like acupuncture and homeopathy are practiced. See also Thangkha art, exquisite metalwork, weaving, and papermaking. The Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, which exhibits Bhutanese material culture and traditions, will be your first stop. After that, go to Tashichho Dzong and then to the Handicrafts Emporium and local shops to shop for textiles, Thangkha paintings, jewelry, and other items.

Overnight in Thimpu!

Day 3: Drive from Thimpu to Punakha and back to Thimpu

Maximum Altitude: 3,050m/10,000ft

FAQ

How do I obtain a Bhutan visa?

We’ll help you apply for visas. Your visa application must be submitted to the Bhutanese government at least one week before departure. When you arrive in Paro, you will be handed a paper visa that will be stamped on your passport. We’ll need a clear scan copy of your passport for the visa application.

Can I travel independently in Bhutan?

No! You won’t be allowed to enter Bhutan unless you’ve planned a land trip with a licensed and approved tour operator and paid the required nightly all-inclusive government tariff. Bhutan’s government discourages independent tourists in order to preserve the country’s strict culture and natural importance. During the trip, however, you have a lot of freedom to visit local markets and towns and engage with the locals as you like. You can plan your own private tour without having to join a larger group; however, it must be pre-paid and pre-arranged.

In Bhutan, what kind of weather should I expect?

Bhutan, like Nepal and many other countries throughout the world, is undergoing climate change. Summer is hot, humid, and rainy from June until mid-September. Winter is cold and dry (December to early March). The nights are cold in the winter, but the days are clear and sunny. The western valleys receive barely two snowfalls per year on average. The wettest months are August and early September.
