Overview

The Ruby Valley Trek is one of the most beautiful and sacred homestay treks of Nepal. It offers beautiful interaction with diverse landscapes, the Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang Himal, local Tamang and Gurung culture, the PangSang pass, and many more. Lying between Langtang National Park and Manaslu Conservation Area, the trekking trail features a mine of copper, zinc, ruby, monasteries, temples, lakes, and dense rhododendron/pine/fir forest.

Ruby Valley Trek is an unexplored gem that gets more and more beautiful as one ventures into its depth of it. We will begin from Kathmandu to the Syabrubesi drive. The realization of how beautiful nature can hit soon as we witness the changing landscape, and panoramic views of mountains, and forests. We will hike towards Gatlang and then Somdang. In between, we will explore the holy Parvati Kunda, suspension bridges, bumpy trails,s, and exotic nature. We will continue hiking through Pangsang Pass to reach Tipling. We will cross many small settlements and forests. We will drive to Dhading Besi and then to the capital of Nepal i.e. Kathmandu.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in the capital of Nepal i.e. Kathmandu

Maximum Altitude: Kathmandu (1400m/ 4593.17 ft.)

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 When you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, our airport agent will greet you and transport you to the hotel. You can just freshen up and make yourself comfortable. Tourists are fascinated by Kathmandu’s street culture. It’s always busy.

You can simply walk out and explore. You can also visit some stalls that serve street food. You will get answers to why the stalls are always so full. Don’t forget to strike up a conversation with the locals.

Enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner at night. Overnight.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and trek preparation

Maximum Altitude:  Kathmandu (1400m/ 4593.17 ft.)

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 Kathmandu blends ancient art and western values perfectly. The day marks sightseeing in Kathmandu where we will be visiting some major cultural highlights like Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, and Swayambhunath. The valuable monuments and artistic tales of Kathmandu reflect the history of this city.

You can also prepare for the trek. There will be our guide who will direct you to local markets for your last day trek preparation. There will also be a session in the evening with our team. Overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi (1467 m)

Maximum Altitude: 1467m

Traveled Distance: 122 km

Trip Duration: 7-8 hours drive

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 The magnificent drive takes us through shifting landscapes, lush green hills, snowy mountains, small hamlets, and the beauty that Nepal has to offer in every possible aspect.

It takes 7-8 hours to reach Syabrubesi from Kathmandu. We will pass Dhunche, Trishuli Bazaar as soon as we get our permits checked to enter the Lantang National Park region.

Syabrubesi is a small settlement that is a getaway to many treks in the Langtang region. Overnight in Syabrubesi

Day 04: Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2240 m)

Maximum Altitude: Gatlang(2240 m)

Traveled Distance: 12 km

Trek Duration:5-6 hours

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 The Tamang village of Gatlang consists of settlements with the Tamang people, their culture, practices, and cuisines. This is the first hike of this trek. You will be amazed to see the richness of culture this place beholds and to taste the delicious meals from freshly produced vegetables.

We will walk pass Chawatar and descend to reach Gatlang. Overnight.

Day 5: Trek from Gatlang to Somdang (3271 m)

Maximum Altitude: Somdang(3271 m)

Traveled Distance:7 km

Trip Duration: 6-7hours

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After early morning breakfast, we head towards Parvati Kunda. The place is rich in natural beauty with a hint of religious vibe. It is an alpine freshwater lake. It is more than a thousand years old. It is also the source of drinking water for the locals there. We will dart towards Yuri kharka through rhododendron and pine forests. We will stop by for a meal and then our journey resumes as we head towards Somdang river.

As we keep walking for a few hours, we will be amazed to witness a shutdown mine where there is a tunnel used to extract copper, zinc, tin, crystal, ruby. Though it is closed for years, there is so much to talk about this place. We will then reach the Somdang valley. We will rest in this heartbreakingly silent environment. Overnight.

Day 6: Trek from Somdang to Tipling (2078 m) via Pangsang pass (3842 m)

Maximum Altitude: Pangsang pass (3842 m)

Traveled Distance: 6 km

Trip Duration: 6-7 hours

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will be climbing at the highest altitude of the Ruby valley trek. As usual, our day starts with breakfast. It is a thrilling trek, I must say.

We begin trekking towards the southwest of Somdang to reach Pangsang Kharka. Meanwhile, the visual treat of beautiful mountains and splendid landscape overwhelm us. Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh Himal range accompany us. There are few lodges up there as this trail isn’t touched as much as others for trekking. This place is also popular for its medicinal value as there is the availability of varied species of medicinal herbs.

We will explore around the village and descend through the beautiful rhododendron/fir forest to reach Tipling. It is a small village up there which features the beauty of forests, mountains and local culture. Overnight.

Day 7: Trek from Tipling to Chalis Gaon (1800 m), 3 hrs

Maximum Altitude: Tipling (2078 m)

Trip Duration: 3 hours

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 After our early morning breakfast, we will enjoy our short yet very entertaining trek. We will be trekking around the sister villages of this region i.e. Shertung and Chalis Gaon. They are the home to Tamang, Dalit, and Gurung people. We will have to pass a lush green forest and tributary to reach the village.

Enjoy your sitting with the locals. Embrace nature and brace yourself. Overnight in Chalis Gaon.

Day 8: Trek from Chalis Gaon to Borang ( 3 hrs), drive to Dhading Besi

Maximum Altitude: Chalis Gaon (1800 m)

Trip Duration:2-3 hours hike, 4-5 hrs drive

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 This is our final day trek before we get back to Kathmandu. We will be hiking towards Borang village and Lishne Khola. This day also features a drive to Dhading Besi in a local jeep. We will have the visits of Ankhu Khola and Kimdng Phedi village as we venture through the curvy trial towards Dhading Besi. We will have the memories to cherish as we reach Dhading besi and rest overnight.

Day 9:Drive back to Kathmandu

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 After breakfast, we’ll take a lovely overland drive back to Kathmandu. To get to Kathmandu, we will have to say goodbye to the gorgeous mountains, swift-flowing rivers, slopes, and settlements.

We’ll check into our hotel in Kathmandu, freshen up, and go shopping for souvenirs. Thamel and Ason are the most well-known local markets, offering the greatest Nepalese items. In the evening, you will be treated to a goodbye supper with a Nepali music program.

Day 10: Final Departure.

Meal: Breakfast

Autumn and Spring are the best seasons for the Ruby valley trek. There will be absolute minimal chances of rainfall which ensures very clear views of mountains and the beautiful nature. Moreover, these seasons save us from rainfall causing slippery roads and snowfall which make it difficult to withstand.

What are Nepal's visa requirements?

Before traveling to Nepal, you must obtain Nepal visa. Except for India, travelers from other countries need to have it. Once you are in Nepal, you can apply for this visa. Then, send your passport, which must be valid for at least six months after the tour begins.
