You will also need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter the Tsum Valley. Make sure to obtain these permits before starting the trek.

Altitude sickness: Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of their physical fitness level. It is important to be aware of the symptoms and take necessary precautions to avoid them. This includes staying hydrated, ascending slowly, and resting when needed.
Weather conditions: The best time to do the Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley Trek is during the autumn and spring seasons when the weather is dry and clear. However, weather conditions can be unpredictable in the mountains, so it is important to be prepared for all conditions.
Accommodation and food: Accommodation and food options can be limited in some parts of the trek, especially in the Tsum Valley. It is important to carry enough cash with you to pay for accommodation and food along the way.

It is important to be respectful of their culture and customs. Dress modestly, ask for permission before taking photographs, and avoid littering.

The Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley Trek takes 20 to 23 days with Nepal Mountain Adventure, combining the complete Manaslu Circuit including the Larkya La Pass crossing at 5,160 m with a full exploration of the sacred Tsum Valley restricted area branching off from the main Budhi Gandaki trail.
This combined trek starts from USD 1,999 per person with Nepal Mountain Adventure including all Manaslu and Tsum Valley restricted area permits, a licensed guide, porter, teahouse accommodation, and three daily meals for the complete 20 to 23 day itinerary.
This is a challenging yet exciting trek that every adventurous traveler takes. Comfort levels are more difficult than some popular trekking routes of Nepal. However, trek to this region is not extremely challenging as we take a couple of acclimatization during the trek.
Yes, the Tsum Valley has its own separate restricted area permit of USD 35 per week in addition to the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and Conservation Area Permit. Nepal Mountain Adventure arranges all permit documentation in Kathmandu as Tsum Valley permits cannot be obtained anywhere else in Nepal.
The Tsum Valley branches off the main Manaslu Circuit trail at Lokpa village in the lower Budhi Gandaki valley. Trekkers leave the main circuit trail, enter the Tsum Valley for 7 to 9 days, then rejoin the Manaslu Circuit at Chumling or Nile before continuing up the Budhi Gandaki to Samagaon and the Larkya La Pass.
Autumn (October to November) is the top recommended season. The Tsum Valley sits at a lower elevation than the main circuit so it remains passable in early spring but the combination of two restricted area sections in one itinerary benefits greatly from the stable post-monsoon weather window when both valleys are at their clearest and most accessible.
This combined trek is rated strenuous due to its 20 to 23 day duration, the remote trail conditions in both restricted areas, multiple days above 4,000 m, and the demanding Larkya La Pass crossing at 5,160 m. Prior experience on multi week high altitude treks is strongly recommended before attempting this combination.
The Tsum Valley itinerary includes visits to Mu Gompa at 3,700 m and Rachen Gompa at 3,800 m, the two most significant monasteries in the valley. Mu Gompa is a large active monastery with over 60 resident monks while Rachen Gompa is a renowned nunnery. Both preserve centuries old Tibetan Buddhist art, scriptures, and ritual traditions.
The Tsum Valley trekking route reaches approximately 4,000 m near Nile village and Mu Gompa, which is significantly lower than the Larkya La Pass on the Manaslu Circuit. This lower maximum altitude in the Tsum Valley section provides valuable acclimatization time before the higher altitude demands of the main Manaslu Circuit.
Yes, Nepal Mountain Adventure offers the Tsum Valley as a standalone 14 to 16 day trek for trekkers who want the cultural experience without the full circuit commitment. However, combining both in one trip is strongly recommended for trekkers who have 20 or more days available as the two destinations complement each other perfectly.
My partner and I had been dreaming of doing a truly remote Himalayan trek not the well-worn tourist trails, but something raw, spiritual, and genuinely off the beaten path. The Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley Trek was exactly that. Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters with nothing but glaciers and silence around us, then descending into the mystical Tsum Valley with its ancient Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags, and Tibetan-influenced villages, it felt less like a trek and more like stepping into another world entirely.
What made this experience truly stand out was Tsum Valley itself. Visiting Mu Gompa at 3,700 meters, walking the sacred Milarepa Piren Phu cave trail, and sharing tea with locals in Chhokangparo were moments neither of us will ever forget. The Manaslu region is remarkably unspoiled, no crowds, no noise, just dramatic mountain views of Manaslu (8,163 m), Ganesh Himal, and Singri Himal stretching endlessly across the horizon. As a couple, trekking through these restricted areas together created a bond that no ordinary holiday ever could.
All restricted area permits including the Tsum Valley RAP were sorted in advance, the teahouses along the Budhi Gandaki were warm and welcoming, and every meal was hearty and nourishing after long trekking days. If you and your partner are looking for the most rewarding and culturally rich trek in Nepal, the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is the one. Do not hesitate, Just book it.
