How long does it take to climb Mount Manaslu?

The Manaslu Expedition takes 50 to 60 days total including the approach via the Manaslu Circuit Trek trail through the Budhi Gandaki valley, base camp establishment, acclimatization rotations, the summit push on Manaslu (8,163 m) which is the eighth highest mountain in the world, and the return descent.

Why is Manaslu considered more accessible than Everest for 8,000 m aspirants?

Manaslu at 8,163 m is considered the best introductory 8,000 m peak for climbers ready to step up from technical expedition peaks like Ama Dablam because it has a lower permit cost than Everest, a more straightforward standard route via the northeast face, smaller expedition teams, and less crowded fixed lines while still delivering the full death zone altitude experience above 8,000 m.

What permit is needed for the Manaslu Expedition?

The Manaslu government climbing permit costs USD 125 per person in spring (March to May) and is obtainable through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation via a registered trekking agency. What high camps are established on Manaslu?

Nepal Mountain Adventure establishes four high camps on the standard northeast face route: Camp 1 (5,700 m), Camp 2 (6,400 m), Camp 3 (7,100 m), and Camp 4 (7,400 m) from which the summit push to 8,163 m begins in the early hours of the summit day with supplemental oxygen.

What is the best season to climb Manaslu?

Spring (March to May) is the primary Manaslu climbing season with the Nepal government opening permits for this window. The post-monsoon autumn window from September to October is a secondary option but more challenging due to early snowfall accumulation on the northeast face. Nepal Mountain Adventure primarily operates Manaslu expeditions in the spring season.

What prior experience is required for Manaslu?

Nepal Mountain Adventure recommends climbers have prior summit experience above 7,000 m (ideally on a technical Himalayan peak like Ama Dablam or a lower 8,000 m peak), demonstrated ability to use supplemental oxygen efficiently, prior experience in high camps above 6,000 m, and the physical and psychological capacity for a 50 to 60-day high altitude expedition.

What does the Manaslu base camp include?

Nepal Mountain Adventure’s Manaslu Base Camp (4,800 m) setup includes full expedition tents for all climbers, a heated dining tent, dedicated cook team, solar power system, satellite phone and WiFi, weather forecasting service via MeteoGram or similar provider, a base camp manager, and dedicated liaison officer services throughout the full expedition duration.

How does the Manaslu route compare technically to Everest?

The standard Manaslu northeast face route is considered technically less demanding than Everest’s South Col route as it involves more straightforward high altitude glacier and snow climbing without the extreme technical sections of the Khumbu Icefall, the Hillary Step, or the exposure of the Everest South Col above 8,000 m. This makes Manaslu the preferred first 8,000 m objective for experienced high altitude climbers.
